Rachel Murphy - Small Moments (large)

Rachel Murphy is a New Zealand ceramic artist working predominantly in porcelain slip casting using plaster moulds and liquid clay. Small Moments reflects her ongoing fascination with the natural world and captures fleeting experiences that leave a lasting impression - from collecting shells on the beach and observing the movement of water, to studying sedimentary rock formations and moments of filtered light in the bush. Designed to capture these experiences, Small Moments offers visitors a meaningful memento of their time at Brick Bay and its surrounding landscape.

Mostly self-taught, Rachel has developed her practice through years of experimentation and refinement, including more than 20 years working with gilding techniques.

After 15 years designing furniture and interiors, Rachel turned her focus to ceramics in 2012 and became a full-time artist in 2014. Influenced by her design background and inspired by New Zealand’s landscapes, her work explores form, texture, and the subtle beauty found in nature.
