School Visits at Brick Bay
An Inspiring, Low-Stress Outdoor Learning Experience
Looking for an excursion that genuinely extends classroom learning - without adding pressure to your planning?
Brick Bay Sculpture Trail offers a structured yet flexible outdoor learning environment where students engage with contemporary New Zealand sculpture in a natural setting just one hour from Auckland.
Clear Curriculum Connections
A visit aligns naturally with The Arts, English, Social Sciences and Science, while supporting the NZ Curriculum key competencies — particularly thinking, relating to others, and participating and contributing.
Students interpret meaning, respond to materials and scale, explore place and identity, and practise visual literacy in a real-world context.
Easy to Plan
We provide:
- Printed trail maps for all students
- Age-appropriate activity maps
- Interpretive signage for independent inquiry
- Background material on artists and artworks
- Support with planning if needed
You’re welcome to shape the experience around your own unit plan — whether that’s sculpture, creative writing, sustainability themes, or place-based learning.
Manageable Group Experience
- School visits: Monday–Friday, 10am–2pm
- Up to 40 students per group (larger groups can be staggered)
- Approximately 60–90 minutes to walk the full trail
- Clearly marked pathways
- Toilet facilities at the start and end of the trail
The trail layout naturally disperses groups, allowing students to engage without crowding.
Cost & Access
- Students: $12
- Teachers and supervisors: Free
- Under 5s: Free
We also offer the Brick Bay Young Art Explorers Grant to ensure cost is not a barrier. Please let us know at booking if support is needed.
Facilities That Make the Day Easy
- Designated lunch areas (The Row or Pecan Orchard)
- Optional takeaway hot drinks
- Onsite toilets
- Car and coach access (with guidance for bus providers)
We encourage a leave-no-trace approach to care for the whenua.
