Brick Bay’s Autumn Menu: A Celebration of Seasonal, Slow Food on the Matakana Coast

As the leaves begin to turn and the air takes on the gentle crispness of autumn, there’s a noticeable shift across Brick Bay. The Sculpture Trail glows in rich gold and amber tones, the vineyard settles into a slower rhythm, and the kitchen embraces the comforting flavours of the season.

Our new autumn menu is designed to reflect exactly that — a celebration of seasonal produce, thoughtful cooking, and the connection between land, vineyard, and table.

At Brick Bay, food has always started with the land itself. From herbs and edible flowers grown in our gardens to lamb raised on the farm and olive oil pressed from our own groves, many of the ingredients woven through our menu are grown or produced right here on the Matakana Coast. Combined with carefully selected ingredients from local artisan producers, the result is a dining experience deeply rooted in place and season.

This autumn, the menu leans into warmer, richer flavours made for slow afternoons and long lunches. Dishes like our Spiced Brick Bay Lamb with pear and fig chutney, pumpkin and celeriac purée capture the comfort of the cooler months, while new additions like cumin spiced lamb ribs and chilli glazed cauliflower bring depth, spice, and earthy seasonal character to the table.

Even familiar favourites have evolved with the season. Our Buffalo Mozzarella now arrives with smoked garlic mushrooms, caramelised olives, balsamic onion and parsley pesto — a more savoury, autumn-inspired take on a guest favourite.

The wine list has also welcomed a special seasonal addition: our limited-release 2022 Chardonnay. Produced from just 36 cases, this beautifully poised wine offers layers of peach, toasted savoury notes, flinty minerality and bright citrus acidity. It’s a Chardonnay made for autumn dining and slow enjoyment, and once it’s gone, it’s gone.

At its heart, the Brick Bay experience is about slowing down. Wandering the Sculpture Trail beneath autumn colour, lingering over a shared platter, enjoying a glass of wine overlooking the vineyard — it’s a reminder of the pleasure found in taking time.

Whether you’re visiting for a relaxed weekend lunch, a wine tasting, or simply to experience one of the most beautiful seasons at Brick Bay, autumn is a time to settle in, savour, and reconnect with the rhythms of the land.
