Farewell Townie

In Lauren Lysaght’s Townie, glamorous red shoes trot across the landscape commenting on the vulnerability of feeling ‘out of place’ in a rural environment. The artist also reflects on mobility in this sculpture, walking cane-assisted herself.

Townie has been a popular work on the trail, delighting both children and adults alike. Ten Townie shoes have found their new home in Australia and we’re saying farewell to more shoes as they head to Epsom Girls Grammar School in Auckland.
The school’s staff and students have fundraised for a new sculpture to become part of their Art Department and after visiting Brick Bay decided their hearts were set on Lauren’s work.

We’re thrilled to be helping people and communities find great art to become a permanent part of their environment.
