Sitting quietly beneath the tree is a nest holding a pair of eggs. It has a gentle presence, resting, as if fallen from above.
The artist Liz Earth pays homage to the incredible nest-building skills of the thrush, who creates her home entirely from natural materials, using only her beak and claws. Liz has made her Nest by hand, creating the solid base from plaster, fibreglass, paper and wire. She then gathered grape-vine prunings and foliage from around Brick Bay, integrating the surrounding land into the sculpture.
This is a fascinating example of a work made with consummate care, piece by piece over time, just as the bird makes a nest for her forthcoming offspring.
