Cork Oak Walk

Not all wine is screwcapped and cork is still used to seal most premium red wines outside New Zealand. Cork users believe that the minute exchange of oxygen that occurs through a cork closure is beneficial to the development of the wine, while the sustainability of cork over screwcap is undeniable.

A natural product, harvested in a sustainable rotational system, and now treated in high-tech factories to largely avoid the problem of ‘corked wine’, cork is a natural choice for our red wines…..and yes, cork does grow on trees!

The new Cork Oak Walk is a short loop on the Sculpture Trail where you’ll see our maturing cork oaks with their characteristic bark, and have a more elevated view over the lovely kahikatea
