An Early Vintage?

Following the unusually hot December and January, the vineyard is running about two weeks ahead of last year.
All grape varieties are now moving into veraison, where the berries start to soften and change from green to a red colour. Even the Pinot Gris adopts a reddish bronze hue as it continues to ripen. This colour change alerts the birds, so all our vineyard is now netted.
Work continues fruit-selecting and leaf plucking as we set up the harvest to gather only the perfectly ripe fruit. Early March will probably see the vintage underway.
